This will be our fourth year posting our rookie rankings for dynasty football leagues. It has become one of my favorite articles to write. Football and thus fantasy football has become a year round sport to watch.
I just concluded my first rookie only draft that lasted seven rounds and soon to follow are most of our fantasy football league drafts and auctions. The annual draft is for many the make or break point in their season. For playoff teams, they search for that one missing piece. For non-playoff teams, they hope those top picks turn into the next elite talent to lead them to the Promised Land. And for the league champion, fear of getting knocked down a peg or two exists, and they still think they are smarter than everyone else.

2014 OutofRounds Fantasy Football Dynasty League Rookie Positional Rankings

This is now our third year posting our rookie rankings for dynasty football leagues. It has become one of my favorite articles to write. Football and thus fantasy football has become a year round sport to watch.
This coming week kicks off my first rookie only draft and soon to follow are most of our fantasy football league drafts and auctions. The annual draft is for many the make or break point in their season. For playoff teams, they search for that one missing piece. For non-playoff teams, they hope those top picks turn into the next elite talent to lead them to the Promised Land. Marvin Jones, WR, CIN

This is the no-brainer waiver wire pick of the year. Jones was already solid for two weeks, but after week 8, his ownership percentage should jump into the 90’s in CBS and all other leagues. Will he keep this pace up? Who knows….but he doesn’t have to in order to be a solid flex position going forward. Since this was so easy….here is one more pick.

Last week’s Pick- Peyton Hillis, RB, NYG: 70 rushing yards and 3 receptions for 15 yards

Peyton Hillis, RB, NYG

36 yards on 18 attempts is horrible.  That’s what Hillis gained on the ground against Minnesota.  But he also caught 5 balls for 45 yards and got a rushing TD as well giving him a respectable fantasy point total.  There’s a good chance he starts this week against Philly.  And right now he’s only owned in 25% of CBS leagues.  A solid bye week replacement this week.

Last week’s Pick- Nick Foles, QB, PHI: 80 yards passing

Nick Foles, QB, PHI

Foles led the Eagles to a win in week 6 against Tampa Bay. He posted almost 300 yards passing and 4 total TDs. That makes for a big day! While Vick may be healthy enough to start in week 7, it’s apparent that Foles is the better of the two QBs in Chip Kelly’s system. Even if Vick regains the starting job, he’ll continue to miss time as he always has due to injury. Foles is a prime pick up if available in your leagues, and a QB I’d stash and keep as a QB2.

Last week’s Pick- Andre Brown, RB, NYG: No recorded stats

Andre Brown, RB, NYG

This is my boom or bust pick of the season. David Wilson may be lost for the season. Many fantasy owners are thinking Brandon Jacobs after his 100 yard performance against the Bears in a losing effort on Thursday night. The player to pick up and stash is Andre Brown. He’s recovering from injury and on the short term IR. He’ll be back before season’s end and I think will be the starter for the later part of the season.

Last week’s Pick- Garrett Graham, TE, HOU: 3 receptions for 15 yards

Garrett Graham, TE, HOU

The waiver wire this week is a bit thin. I think a lot of owners will be jumping on the Rashard Jennings bandwagon, but he was lackluster for years in Jacksonville, and I don’t see him doing much as DMac’s replacement, so he’s a pass in my book. The guy that I’d target for week 5 is Garrett Graham of Houston. The TE position is always a little light, and it appears he’s slowly succeeding Owen Daniels as Matt Schaub’s safety net.  Graham has put up a minimum of 12 fantasy points in PPR leagues in 3 out of the first 4 weeks this year. Week 4 saw him raise that total to 17.9, and he’s now sitting right around 11th best for TEs after last week (and this includes his zero points in week 3).  He’s rising fast so don’t miss out.

Last week’s Pick- Mike Glennon, QB, TB: 193 yards passing, 1 TD, 2 INT’s

Santonio Holmes, WR, NYJ

Let me say up front, I am not a Santonio Holmes fan.  He’s too much of a dog for my taste.  But right now he’s only owned in 17% of CBS leagues and he’s the lead dog in an otherwise meager Jets’ WR corps.  With Geno Smith slinging the ball and Rex needing wins to keep him from coaching the Jaguars’ special teams next year, Holmes could be a valuable commodity to own.  Holmes has the potential to be a solid #3 and occasional #2 WR this year.  Like in Week 4 against the Titans.

Last Week’s Pick- Nate Burleson, WR, DET: 6 receptions for 116 yards

Austin Pettis, WR, STL

Pettis had 11 catches for 97 yards and 1 TD in Week 2 for the Rams. The Rams offense is one I’m watching this year as Bradford may finally have enough weapons to move the ball down the field and ultimately put it in the end zone. The Rams seem to be playing fast, with Richardson a small-ish scat back with speed, Givens on one end and I thought Tavon Austin in the slot. But as we know, rookie WR’s take time to get acclimated to the NFL game. Pettis played well in Week 2, coming out of the slot for most of the game, and he’s in the magical year 3 for wide receivers where it all seems to come together. I think the Rams have a bit of lightning in the bottle with Pettis and he really starts to develop this year.

Last week’s Pick- Joique Bell, RB, DET- 31 rushing yards, 5 receptions for 41 yards

Fantasy Football 2013 Week 2 Top Picks: Julius Thomas, Joique Bell, Kellen Winslow, Leonard Hankerson, Brian Hartline and Jerome Simpson

Julius Thomas, TE, DEN

Considering that just about every football fan in America was watching the Denver-Baltimore game last Thursday,  it’s safe to assume that by this time tomorrow, Thomas will be owned in almost 100% of CBS leagues.  Right now he’s only owned in 46%.   Yes, he’s the 4th receiving option in a loaded Broncos offense.  But Manning’s 4th option is better than most QB’s 2nd.  Look for him to put up good numbers each week with an occasional 20+ point game sprinkled in here and there.

Last week’s Pick- Brandon LaFell . . . no recorded stats
