Mario Manningham, WR, SF
When Manningham signed with San Fran, he thought he moved up the depth chart from his previous spot as the 3rd option in the Giants’ passing game. What he quickly found out was being Alex Smith’s second option was no great shakes. I’d bet he’d like a ‘do over’ on that decision. Now in Week 12, he had Kaepernick target him five times. Mario caught all five passes thrown his way and netted 65 yards. This was his highest number of targets and catches since Week 6. With Kaepernick under center, you’ll most likely see a shift to a more passing-friendly offense as Alex Smith is more game manager than gunslinger. I’d scoop Manningham up. He’s young, experienced, and has good hands. He had double-digit points in PPR leagues from Week 4 through Week 7, and should now be a solid flex option with hopes of being a #2WR with Kaepernick starting.

Davone Bess, WR, MIA
First of all, Bess is my waiver wire guy because he’s only owned in 35% of CBS leagues. Yet he was targeted a team-high 9 times against a tough Seattle secondary and caught 7 balls for 129 yards. These are the kind of numbers you should look for instead of total fantasy points. Sometimes a no-named player can catch an 80-yard bomb for a TD and score an unsustainable amount of fantasy points that week. Bess’s stats are the opposite of that. He got the points without the flashy, once-in-a-season play. With Tannehill coming into his own, Bess will continue to get those quality targets for the rest of the season. If you need a #3 WR or flex player for your playoff run, then Bess is your guy.
“Don’t Believe the Hype”

Colin Kaepernick, QB, SF
How could the “Boy Wonder” end up on my over-hyped list this week? Well, for one, he played like he was making his second career start…..oh wait he was! Well, he was supposed to explode onto the scene and build off his first start. Facing a terrible Saints defense wasn’t supposed to be a challenge after he picked apart the Bears. And on his first possession against New Orleans, he ran in for an uncontested TD. Many experts had him as a top start and he didn’t come up scoring like one. I had him pegged for 300 passing yards and multiple TD’s, but that didn’t happen. Luckily, the 49ers’ defense won the game for them. Now Coach Harbaugh still hasn’t named his Week 13 starter. Charles Clay, TE, MIA
Let me raise my hand right now and say, “I’ve never heard of Charles Clay until I saw his stat line on Fox Sports while watching the game.” But 6 catches for 84 yards and a TD will make anybody raise their head off the couch and say, “Charles who?”. I do believe there’s something to said for young players coming up together. I remember Greg Jennings talking about how he and Aaron Rodgers would eat together in the Packers mess hall and talk about visions of future glory, which came true only a few short years later. While I like Clay as a “young pup pickup”, I don’t recommend him as a must-start. Pick him up but don’t depend on him just yet.

Jermaine Gresham, TE, CIN
This year has been weak for TE’s aside from Gronkowski and Tony Gonzalez, who hasn’t kept up his hot pace from the start of the season. Gresham seems to be hitting his stride with Dalton being a solid QB. Gresham has reached double-digit fantasy points in five of his last six weeks and has scored 3 TD’s in the process. Week 12 saw Gresham net a late, fourth quarter TD to get into double-digit fantasy points. But he also just missed another TD in the second quarter. In any event, he made the most of his four targets this past week and he’s a solid #1 TE from here on out.

Pierre Garçon, WR, WAS
I drafted Garçon in an early round of my dynasty league. And I was watching on TV when he caught that pass in Week 1 and took it to the house. Visions of a fantasy championship danced through my head until I found out he had injured his foot (his foot???) on the TD catch. He teased me in Weeks 4 & 5 and even a little in Week 11. And then on Thanksgiving, while stuffing my face with giblets, he made an unbelievable catch behind his body and sprinted away to the end zone for a 59-yard TD. Yes, he was on my bench, and, no, he won’t be next week. Start Garçon in all formats. Heeee’sssss baaaaacckkkkk.
MNF Extra Pick:
Bryce Brown, RB, PHI
Any rookie whose last start was in high school, is only owned in 61% of CBS leagues and runs for 178 yards and 2 TD’s in a MNF game is overhyped, undervalued, and a fantastic waiver wire addition. Go get him!
