Fantasy Football Week 14 QB Rankings: Russell Wilson, Jake Locker, Colin Kaepernick, Matt Schaub and Brandon Weeden

By Mike Scala

In our Week 14 QB rankings, I discuss and rank Russell Wilson, Jake Locker, Colin Kaepernick, Matt Schaub and Brandon Weeden.

5) Colin Kaepernick, SF

I’ve been on a ‘Kaepernick high’ since he put on a clinic facing a really good Chicago defense. I added this guy in two leagues I’m in. While that may be good for next season, it hasn’t been for the past few games. I’ve been wrong and I’m downgrading Kaepernick….and no doubt he’ll now explode. He does have a good matchup against the Dolphins. And while there will be a few teams in the playoffs which don’t have top QBs that are locks to start, I wouldn’t pin my hopes on this guy as he’s growing into the position. Ride a different QB. He’s a sit, and goes for 250 yards passing, 50 rushing, and 1 TD.

Waiver Wire

Josh Gordon, WR, CLE

I’ve been watching Gordon in my CBS leagues through the scout team function for some time now. I like the young Browns team, especially with Richardson featured as the all-purpose back. Cleveland has no one else to catch the ball but Gordon, and Weeden isn’t a bad young QB. Although he did explode for his finest game this season against the Raiders, Gordon was easily a starting option in Weeks 5 and 6 before Week 13. He was also a good flex option more recently on Weeks 11 and 12 leading up to his big game Sunday. He’s a good receiver to own long-term in a dynasty format.  I’d even start him in the playoffs.

Waiver Wire Pick Ups

Mike

Brendon Weeden, QB, Browns– I wasn’t high on Weeden going into 2012, even though he was a first round pick. He’s old for a rookie QB at 29 and the Browns don’t have much punch on offense. However in week 5 he posted a solid 20+ point effort in most leagues on his way to a 291 yard game. Josh Morgan, his rookie wide receiver, will no doubt be a hot waiver wire pick up as well. If Gordon becomes a threat, pairing him with all-purpose running back Trent Richardson gives Weeden at least two weapons, and sometimes that’s all you need to be relevant.
