I’ve been participating in many drafts the past few weeks in my annual dynasty leagues. Typically, I don’t participate in scratch leagues, however this year is different as there has been significant change in the consensus talent owners are taking in the 1st round of drafts. This year I’ve jumped into a few mock drafts to see how others are drafting. Unlike years in the past, the drafts this year don’t seem to be following a distinct trend, which often times lead to typical average draft positions (ADP), which owners use to build their teams around. For many this could offer an advantage to getting a leg up on your competition and win your leagues.

So let’s look at a strategy to, at the very least, keep you in contention by avoiding making a bad selection in the first round of your draft. While leagues are rarely won in the first round, they are certainly lost there if the player you selected doesn’t live up to their projections, or make it reasonably close.
