Assessing the Risk for Consensus First Rounders: Adrian Peterson, Doug Martin, Arian Foster, Jamal Charles, C.J. Spiller, Marshawn Lynch, Ray Rice, Drew Brees, Calvin Johnson, Trent Richardson, LeSean McCoy, Aaron Rodgers, Alfred Morris, Matt Forte, Peyton Manning and Steven Jackson

I’ve been participating in many drafts the past few weeks in my annual dynasty leagues. Typically, I don’t participate in scratch leagues, however this year is different as there has been significant change in the consensus talent owners are taking in the 1st round of drafts. This year I’ve jumped into a few mock drafts to see how others are drafting. Unlike years in the past, the drafts this year don’t seem to be following a distinct trend, which often times lead to typical average draft positions (ADP), which owners use to build their teams around. For many this could offer an advantage to getting a leg up on your competition and win your leagues.

So let’s look at a strategy to, at the very least, keep you in contention by avoiding making a bad selection in the first round of your draft. While leagues are rarely won in the first round, they are certainly lost there if the player you selected doesn’t live up to their projections, or make it reasonably close.

5 Ridiculously Undervalued Fantasy Football Players in 2012: Alfred Morris, Carson Palmer, Heath Miller, Andre Roberts and Mike Williams

By Rich Cordaway

There’s nothing I like more than undervalued players.  These are all guys you could’ve drafted late or picked up off the waiver wire at some point.  Team them up with bona fide, early round studs like Foster and Rodgers and you’ve got your league’s championship all but locked up.

And if that doesn’t work out, these are guys to be on the lookout for in next year’s draft.

Alfred Morris, RB, WAS

Who would’ve thought this no-name kid buried in the depth chart during training camp would have almost 800 yards and 5 TD’s through Week 1o?  He’s a Top 15 RB so far this year and, barring injury, isn’t going anywhere.  He’s playing on a young, dynamic team with a proven coach.  If he can start getting into the end zone more often, he would creep into that #1 RB territory.  But for now he’s playing above his name value and worth acquiring.

Fantasy Football Week 8 RB Rankings: Alfred Morris, Darren McFadden, Rashad Jennings and LaRod Stephens-Howling

In our Week 8 RB rankings, we discuss and rank Alfred Morris, Darren McFadden, Rashad Jennings and LaRod Stephens-Howling.

Mike gives projected stats and Rich gives position rankings.

Be sure to check us out on Twitter @outofrounds and our Facebook page as well.

Mike’s Rankings:

4) LaRod Stephens-Howling, ARI

Stephens-Howling was the second highest scoring running back behind Chris Johnson last week as he burst onto the scene in week 7 with 104 yards rushing and a TD. For his steller game, he has the privilege of facing a stiff 49’ers defense which should have no trouble clamping down on him. I’m projecting 45 yards rushing, 3 catches, and no TDs

Fantasy Football Top Picks: Week 2

Each week Out of Rounds will make selections in the following areas: Waiver wire pick up- these are players that may appear on your leagues waiver wire. “Don’t believe the hype”- these are players we’re saying are playing above their heads and thus will not perform at the levels we’ve seen to date. Undervalued- these are players we believe have upside.

We’re making these picks using the backdrop of leagues we’ve been in for ten years now. These are twelve team, salary cap, dynasty leagues. These leagues have starting lineups that consist of nine active players in the in the following positions; 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2WRs, 1 TE, 1 TE/WR, and 1 flex RB/WR/TE. Reserve slots total 8 players.

Waiver Wire Pick Ups

Mike:

Kevin Ogletree WR, Cowboys– Ogletree and Stephen Hill (WR, NYJ) are the two hot WR pick ups that most are writing about. I’m no different. Hill has more upside long term in fantasy leagues if you can retain him over time. Ogletree plays on the better offensive team and with a significantly better QB. Many criticize Romo, but he’s a top QB and showed it last year tossing +4000 yards with 31 TDs and only 10 INTs. I like Romo much, much more than Mark Sanchez of the Jets. I do think Ogletree can do well as the 3rd WR on this team. he may not produce Laurent Robinson’s stats totaling 11 TDs last year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes close. Dallas runs plenty of three receiver sets, so he’ll see action.
