Rich

Brandon LaFell, WR, CAR

LaFell has been one of those WR’s who have small stretches of fantasy gold (okay, maybe silver) but can’t seem to be consistent about it. His 2012 numbers of 44 catches for 677 yds and 4 TD’s aren’t eye-popping. But it’s not unrealistic to think those numbers can’t be improved upon. With Newton continuing to mature as a QB, 2013 might see LaFell deliver a season of 60+ catches for 800+ yds and 6+ TD’s. He’s only owned in 38% of CBS leagues, so if you have a need at WR, then you might roll the dice with LaFell.

Why Robert Griffin III is NOT the Fantasy QB to Own in Dynasty Leagues

By Mike Scala

We at OOR have been high on RG3 coming into the league and throughout his rookie campaign. RG3’s rookie season was, in fact, great and the ‘Skins made the playoffs. So by all accounts, the sky is the limit for RG3 in his second season and beyond . . . but now we’re telling you RGIII is not the QB to own this year or build your fantasy team around for the next 5-10 years. We know this contradicts our earlier posts such as “Top 3 reasons RG3 Will be an Elite Dynasty Quarterback”, and our “2012 fantasy Football Dynasty league Rookie Positional Rankings” where we had RG3 essentially 1A behind Andrew Luck. So why the change of heart?  Well now we have more information to make a new assessment on Griffin like a completed season, numerous comments from him and his family, as well as an injury, and a preseason where he’s not doing much.

Entering 2013, Griffin III is ranked in the top 10 of fantasy QBs. Behind Griffin in most rankings are Luck, Kaepernick, Russell Wilson, and Eli Manning, all of whom I’d take ahead of Griffin this or the next 4-5 seasons. I’ve heard of drafts where Griffin is going ahead Cam Newton which is just crazy…even Tony Romo should be going ahead of Griffin….but I digress.

So why should you not build your franchise around RG3?

Assessing the Risk for Consensus First Rounders: Adrian Peterson, Doug Martin, Arian Foster, Jamal Charles, C.J. Spiller, Marshawn Lynch, Ray Rice, Drew Brees, Calvin Johnson, Trent Richardson, LeSean McCoy, Aaron Rodgers, Alfred Morris, Matt Forte, Peyton Manning and Steven Jackson

By Mike Scala

I’ve been participating in many drafts the past few weeks in my annual dynasty leagues. Typically, I don’t participate in scratch leagues, however this year is different as there has been significant change in the consensus talent owners are taking in the 1st round of drafts. This year I’ve jumped into a few mock drafts to see how others are drafting. Unlike years in the past, the drafts this year don’t seem to be following a distinct trend, which often times lead to typical average draft positions (ADP), which owners use to build their teams around. For many this could offer an advantage to getting a leg up on your competition and win your leagues.

So let’s look at a strategy to, at the very least, keep you in contention by avoiding making a bad selection in the first round of your draft. While leagues are rarely won in the first round, they are certainly lost there if the player you selected doesn’t live up to their projections, or make it reasonably close.

2013 Fantasy Football Dynasty League Rookie Positional Rankings

By Mike Scala

This weekend and next most of our fantasy football league drafts and auctions occur. The annual draft is for many the make or break point in their season. For playoff teams, they search for that one missing piece. For non-playoff teams, they hope those top picks turn into the next elite talent to lead them to the promise land. And for the league champion, fear of getting knocked down a peg or two exists, and they still think they are smarter than everyone else.

Fantasy Football Week 15 Top Picks: Montell Owens, Andrew Hawkins, Nick Foles, Bilal Powell, David Wilson and Greg Little

Waiver Wire

Mike

Andrew Hawkins, WR, CIN

The Bengals offense is doing well. Dalton can sling it, AJ Green is Megatron 2.0 and the best young receiver in football, the Law firm of BJGE has been playing well above his talent level, and Sanu is a gritty possession guy…but now he’s injured and done for the year. At this point in the playoffs, finding guys to net some points at even a flex position is gold. What I like even more with Hawkins is he’s playing the beaten down Eagles in Week 15….if you’re still in the hunt, add Hawkins.

Fantasy Football Week 14 Top Picks: Brandon Myers, Brandon Weeden, James Starks, Josh Gordon, Golden Tate and Chris Givens

Waiver Wire

Mike

Josh Gordon, WR, CLE

I’ve been watching Gordon in my CBS leagues through the scout team function for some time now. I like the young Browns team, especially with Richardson featured as the all-purpose back. Cleveland has no one else to catch the ball but Gordon, and Weeden isn’t a bad young QB. Although he did explode for his finest game this season against the Raiders, Gordon was easily a starting option in Weeks 5 and 6 before Week 13. He was also a good flex option more recently on Weeks 11 and 12 leading up to his big game Sunday. He’s a good receiver to own long-term in a dynasty format.  I’d even start him in the playoffs.

Week 13 Thursday Night Football: Jacquizz Rodgers or Michael Turner?

By Rich Cordaway

From a fantasy perspective, it can’t get any worse than this situation: Week 13 right before most fantasy playoffs, teams are fighting for that last playoff spot and a tandem of RB’s are playing a weak rush defense.  In the Thursday night game, no less!

And the big question lingers . . . Who do you start? Jacquizz Rodgers or Michael Turner?

Fantasy Football Week 13 Top Picks: Colin Kaepernick, Pierre Garcon, Mario Manningham, Davone Bess, Jermaine Gresham, Charles Clay and Bryce Brown

Waiver Wire

Mike

Mario Manningham, WR, SF

When Manningham signed with San Fran, he thought he moved up the depth chart from his previous spot as the 3rd option in the Giants’ passing game. What he quickly found out was being Alex Smith’s second option was no great shakes.  I’d bet he’d like a ‘do over’ on that decision.  Now in Week 12, he had Kaepernick target him five times.  Mario caught all five passes thrown his way and netted 65 yards.  This was his highest number of targets and catches since Week 6.  With Kaepernick under center, you’ll most likely see a shift to a more passing-friendly offense as Alex Smith is more game manager than gunslinger.  I’d scoop Manningham up.  He’s young, experienced, and has good hands.  He had double-digit points in PPR leagues from Week 4 through Week 7, and should now be a solid flex option with hopes of being a #2WR with Kaepernick starting.

6 Waiver Wire Gems Who Could Help You Win Your Fantasy Football Championship: Ryan Broyles, Joique Bell, Shane Vereen and others

By Rich Cordaway

Sitting out there on every waiver wire are players whose value exceeds their ownership percentage.  This is mostly due to them being up-and-coming guys who have shown flashes of play-making ability but haven’t been given their due yet because of either injury, lack of playing time or just playing on a bad, small market team.  But these waiver wire “gems” could be the difference between your team winning or being an also-ran.

All of these players are owned in less than 50% of CBS leagues (all but one are under 25% actually).  They will give your team immediate depth at each position and they might even deserve starting on your squad at some point.  They are fantasy “diamonds in the rough” whose production exceeds their value.

Here they are in descending order:

Fantasy Football 2012 Black Friday Door Busters: Colin Kaepernick, Michael Crabtree, Cam Newton, Steve Smith, Eli Manning and Hakeem Nicks

By Mike Scala

Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season every year. Although, I think the origin of Black Friday is lost on the masses, this was the day in the year when retailers actually used to go from being unprofitable to profitable for the year. My….how things have changed over the decades.  Next, we have Cyber Monday….and I’m waiting for On-Line Auction Tuesday…for all those people that missed out on the hot gift and must now comb the web and pay double….don’t those long lines look appealing now???

This year Black Friday started Thursday…..on Thanksgiving! In fantasy football, Black Friday is also a point were the contenders start gearing up for the playoffs and those on the bubble either make a move to sneak in, or are left in the dust. Many fantasy owners are in “start or sit” dilemmas every week. That’s why we post our picks weekly on those players most fantasy owners are wrestling with to start or sit. Thursday’s games yielded an explosion of offense and I’m betting that this continues into the Sunday and Monday games.  Let’s quickly recap Thursdays QB &WR tandems that broke out and project a few to watch the rest of Week 12:
